The Council includes 22 arboretum and botanical gardens. The meeting was organized by the Sochi National Park, the Sochi Arboretum and the Subtropical Botanical Garden of Kuban. Representatives from the Bureau of the Council of Botanical Gardens of Russia, Botanical Gardens of Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kazakhstan took part in its work. Donetsk People’s Republic was represented by the director of the Donetsk Botanical Garden Svetlana Prikhodko.

The meeting began with the grand opening of the memorial stone to the founder of the Subtropical Botanical Garden of Kuban, chairman of the Council of Botanical Gardens of the South of Russia Yuri Karpun. It was dedicated to the 75th birthday of the scientist.

Svetlana Prikhodko made a report on the main activities of the Donetsk Botanical Garden, the creation, maintenance and development of its collections.  Russian Scientific Secretary of the Council of Botanical Gardens Svetlana Potapova noted in her speech the achievements of the Donetsk Botanical Garden team in preserving collections and exhibits, organizing scientific, educational and enlightening activities in difficult conditions.

A tour of the collections and expositions of the Subtropical Botanical garden of Kuban, Sochi «Arboretum», the arboretum of the sanatorium named after M.V. Frunze and villas «Nadezhda» was organized especially for the participants of the meeting.

The expanded meeting of the regional Council of Botanical Gardens of the South of Russia resulted in decisions aimed at coordinating scientific research of botanical gardens, development of programs for the maintenance and development of biological collections, material and technical infrastructure, legislative initiatives on botanical gardens and dendrological parks.

An extremely important step towards integration into the Russian scientific space was the decision of the meeting on the adoption of the State Institution «Donetsk Botanical Garden» as an associate member of the Council of Botanical Gardens in the South of Russia.

The trip took place thanks to the assistance of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Russian Center Public Organization.
