“75 Years of the Great Victory: Historical Memory and the Policy of Neglecting”: international roundtable discussion was held at Gorlovka Institute for Foreign Languages

The roundtable discussion “75 Years of the Great Victory: Historical Memory and the Policy of Neglecting” was held on March 3 at the Gorlovka Institute for Foreign Languages. The event was attended by the representatives of Gorlovka city administration, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Tourism of the Donetsk People’s Republic, as well as the delegation of the All-Russian Public Youth Patriotic Organization “Naslediye” headed by the chairman Vitaly Sheremetyev. The guests of the roundtable discussion were the representatives of the regional offices of this organization from Nizhny Novgorod, Kaluga, and Cheboksary.

As part of the panel discussion, reports were presented on the history of the Great Patriotic War: “The Year of the Great Turning Point. Stalingrad. Kursk. Tehran”, “The Victory March of the Liberators of Europe”, “The Post-War World Arrangement”, “Historical Memory through the Prism of Modern Politics”. Vitaly Sheremetyev described the patriotic projects being implemented by the organization and emphasized that cooperation with the Gorlovka Institute for Foreign Languages for the past year and a half has made it possible to verify the relevance of the topics of the round tables and discussion platforms for educating a citizen of the country, preserving historical memory, and honoring heroes of the Great Patriotic War.

An important result of the current discussion was the conclusion that these are the school teachers and higher education teachers who should be responsible for shaping active citizenship of adolescents and youth, creating conditions so that the true history of our peoples, our homeland is not suppressed and rewritten.

The panel discussion ended with the presentation to the Institute, the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Tourism of modern teaching aids dedicated to the heroic deeds of Soviet athletes during the Great Patriotic War.
