The action takes place with assistance of the Ministry of Education and Science of the DPR, Donbass association of specialists in Russian philology, Donetsk national university, Donetsk republican institute of additional pedagogical education.
The total dictation is an annual world educational event in the form of a voluntary dictation for all comers. The organizer of the action is the Total Dictation fund (Novosibirsk). For the first time the Total dictation was carried out in 2004 by Novosibirsk State University and since then it wins popularity. Last year it was written by 145 000 people.
The action purpose is promoting of Russian, literacy, integration of all who are able or want to learn to write and speak Russian correctly. Anyone, irrespective of age, sex, education, religion, profession, marital status, interests and political views can participate in the Total dictation.
The Total dictation text is written every year by the famous writer especially for the action. The Russian writer Leonid Yuzefovich became the author of the Total dictation of 2017.
