About "decommunization" of the Ukrainian higher educational institutions

18.01.17

Three days ago rectors of the Ukrainian higher education institutions had pleasure to study the letter ultimatum of the Ukrainian educational department (No. 1/9-3 of 10.01.17) concerning accomplishment of measures on "condemnation of the communistic and national socialist totalitarian modes in Ukraine and prohibition of promotion of their symbolics". This document demands management of higher education institutions of "urgent" renaming and withdrawal of all Soviet names (of course this means Soviet, but not any other figures, dates and events).

Besides, special attention is paid to that in all official documents the legal address shall match new names of the cities. It turns out that the Ukrainian higher education institutions for old time's sake continue to name their address, say, Kirovohrad, but not "Kropivnitsky" and Dnipropetrovsk, but not "Dnieper"? It is interesting.

But the most importantthing is that as a punishment for non-execution of the specified requirements higher education institutions will be considered removed for a framework of the Ukrainian legislation, and their documents will not be accepted any more that upon means elimination.

Who will pay this process, I think, it is clear (definitely not at the expense of Kiev ministry). The document (naturally!) is not about this, as well as  the future of collectives and students of "higher education institutions violators".

It is very funny who terrible officials mean specifically? Most likely this is about higher education institutions like the Umansky teachers training university of Pavel Tychina (in 1941 - the winner, it is terrible to tell, the whole Stalin award!), or Oles' Gonchar Dnipropetrovsk university  (too very eminent person of semi-official Soviet literature who gathered much more awards)? This would be fair.

But, I am afraid, under a sight, as usual, there will be higher education institutions named after Gogol, Popov, Zhukovsky, Chernyakhovsk, Kozhedub, Dokuchayev, Tchaikovsky. And it is even not important during what historical period these people lived, but the fact that they absolutely "aren't glued" to an image of Ukraine seen by tKiev chiefs.

And in general, by and large, we can be glad for our neighbors who, most likely, have already managed to solve all the problems in education and to whom   only a couple of words on an entrance of some educational building prevent to walk into bright future.
