“Alexander Zakharchenko passed a hard way together with the people of Donbass. He was not just the Head of the Republic, he led the historical process, led the process of change. In many ways, the Republic owes to his personality, spiritual power. And throughout this path, we have seen how great the influence of personality on the scale of history is. We have been convinced of that.

I can say with confidence that our task is to achieve the continuity of generations. And the steps that we are taking today to perpetuate the memory of the first head of the DPR Alexander Zakharchenko are important for each of us. The foundation of the park named after the first head of the DPR Alexander Zakharchenko is a very significant event.

I am sure that there will be more squares and streets named after him. This is necessary for all of us. This is necessary for the descendants to remember and know what happened and trace the formation of the Donetsk People’s Republic. This park will become a symbol of our unity and solidarity. This is what Alexander Zakharchenko said and dreamed about, and what we will do together with you!” interim head of the DPR Denis Pushilin addressed those present.

Then, all the present observed a minute of silence in honour of the first head of the DPR Alexander Zakharchenko.

The location of the park was not chosen by coincidence. Back in 2017, on December 5, during a meeting with the first cadets of the Republic, Alexander Zakharchenko proposed to continue the tradition of Donetsk as a “city of a million roses”, full of parks and green spaces. The opening of the park with the participation of Alexander Zakharchenko was planned in the autumn of 2018. As a result, on the National Day of Unity Donetsk cadets made a commitment to become the guardians of the park and to honour the memory of the DPR hero Alexander Zakharchenko (1976 – 2018).
