It is the second time that the action has taken place in Donetsk. This year there were 22 sites in total: in Donetsk - 7 sites, in Makeevka - 5, in Torez - 5, in Shakhtyorsk - 2, in Khartsyzk - 1, in Debaltsevo – 1. In Gorlovka the action took place  on the basis of the Gorlovka institute of foreign languages.

About 2000 people, who were previously registrated, participated in the action.

Total dictation is an annual world educational event in the form of a voluntary dictation for all comers. The organizer is Total Dictation fund (Novosibirsk). For the first time the Total dictation was carried out in 2004 by Novosibirsk State University and since then it is becoming more and more popular. In 2016 it was written by 145 000 people. Every year the Total dictation text is written especially for the action by a famous writer. The Russian writer Leonid Yuzefovich became the author of the Total dictation 2017.

Celebrated personalities like representatives of National Council, authorities of the cities, poets, scientists, cultural figures, language teachers and heads of the educational organizations became "dictators" in the Republic.

The famous writer and publicist Zakhar Prilepin became the guest of honor and "dictator" of the Total dictation at Donetsk national university.

In Gorlovka the dictation was read by the famous Russian rock singer Yulia Chicherina who deliberately had come to the Donetsk People's Republic.

At the Donetsk Republican institute of additional pedagogical education the dictation was read by the deputy commander of the Ministry of Defence Corps, colonel Eduard Basurin; in Republican Versatile lyceum boarding school at DonNU – the Deputy of National Council of the DPR, the commander of extra risk battalion "Legion" of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the DPR, colonel Sergey Zavdoveev.

"The total dictation aims to remind once again all of us of the great value of Russian which unites hundreds of various people and cultures", - the Minister of Education and Science of the DPR Larisa Polyakova emphasized.

It is to be noted that the action took place with assistance of the Ministry of Education and Science of the DPR, Donbass association of specialists in Russian philology, Donetsk national university, Donetsk republican institute of additional pedagogical education.
